I suggest using a scooter motor. You want the spinning mass of your drive train to be as small as possible. Intergrate a jack shaft to keep the motor RPM up. Two small motors is better than on big one. The hub motor is the worst since it has a huge flywheel effect that makes it hard to accellerate. Go to SparkFun to find a good accellerometer/ gyro.
